100% Crafted by Hand

All Bare Stone pottery is handmade by Lucy Alexander in a small private studio in California. She is the owner and manager of the Mill Valley Pottery Studio in Tam Junction which is just a hop and a skip over the golden gate bridge. All of Lucy’s work is made from scratch, including the glazes and, the silkscreens used to decorate the surfaces of the pots. She is inspired by food and functionality and strives to make work that brings people together. Aside from managing the studio and making pottery, Lucy is also passionate about photography. For more examples of Lucy’s photography see this page.

The Process

All Bare Stone pottery is decorated with an image transfer technique using silkscreens. The design is first printed with a silkscreen stencil in slip onto paper. After the vessel is thrown on the wheel, the image is transferred from the paper on to the clay using slip. This tedious and difficult process, when done correctly, yields satisfying results of crisp detailed lines.
